Board begins review of dues, committee chairs named
A task force of the ONA board of trustees has begun a review of the membership dues structure, triggered by the current economic conditions. Chaired by ONA president Ken Douthit, the task force met for the first time in Toledo on June 11, in conjunction with the spring meeting of the board.
Douthit says he expects to hold additional meetings during the summer with any resulting recommendations presented to the board at its fall meeting in October.
Other members of the task force are ONA vice president Dick Morris, treasurer David Dix and trustees Frank Beeson, Keith Rathbun and Del Varney.
At its June 12 meeting at the Crowne Plaza Toledo, the board approved Douthit’s committee appointments for the coming year. Named as the new chair of the Weekly Newspaper Committee is Jeff Donahue of This Week Newspapers, Columbus. New additions to the committee include Diane Chiddester of the Yellow Springs News, Jerry Mossbarger of the Jackson Telegram and Erica Peterson of Record Publishing Co., Ravenna.
Varney, of the Columbus Dispatch, has been named chairman of the 2010 Convention Committee. New appointees to that committee are Donahue, Dick Fuller of the Toledo Blade, Stacia King of the Newspaper Network of Central Ohio, and Alex Marshall of the Steubenville Herald Star.
New appointees to the Ohio Newspaper Services Advisory Committee are Steve Davies of the Circleville Herald, Cindy Davis of the Tiffin Advertiser Tribune, and Carol Hahn of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
In additional board action, trustee Dan Behrens was elected to a two-year term on the board of the Ohio Coalition for Open Government. Behrens succeeds Tom Callinan of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
