An attorney representing one of two teens accused of raping a 16-year-old Weirton, W. Va girl after a series of summer parties said Thursday he will not ask for the case to be closed to the public.
Attorney Brian Duncan said up to this point the majority of the information disseminated to the public has been from the perspective of law enforcement and prosecutors.
“Media and the public only have one side of the story,” Duncan said. “Why stop now?”
Duncan said he thought it was odd that Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office decided to ask that the hearing be closed when they had recently released to the media a nearly 300-page transcript of a hearing without getting permission from Visiting Judge Thomas Lipps, who is overseeing the case.
