National Newspaper Week (NNW) is fast approaching and Ohio newspapers are urged to use the occasion to promote our industry and community connections. NNW, which runs October 6 to 12, is our industry’s only celebration of newspapers and deserves your support.
A number of materials to promote the week are already available at www.nationalnewspaperweek.com, with additional materials becoming available in the comings days.
This year’s NNW theme is “Your Community, Your Newspaper, Your Life,” providing a great segue for each Ohio newspaper to use the week to actively engage with their community and readers. If you don’t have time to do anything elaborate, the ONA suggests you write a story or column similar to the one the Mount Vernon News published last year by reporter Rhonda Bletner. The article describes the commitment their family-owned paper has to their community and is very moving. You can read the article at http://www.ohionews.org/2012/10/12/not-too-late-to-note-national-newspaper-week/.
As your paper publishes NNW articles and columns, please send them to the ONA’s Jason Sanford so they can be featured on the ONA website, social media feeds, and in the Bulletin. Jason’s email is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Update: And don’t forget International Newspaper Carrier day is Oct. 12. Here are ads and resources for your papers to use.
