From Gatehouse Media
Brad Dennison has been named Senior Vice President of Publishing for GateHouse Media Inc. Dennison, who currently manages the Large Daily Division of newspapers, will begin his new role Jan. 2.
GateHouse President and COO Kirk Davis said Dennison will oversee senior executives who manage corporate services that include News & Content, Advertising Sales and Marketing, and Consumer Marketing, as well as all publishing divisions, which include the Large Dailies, New England, Community East and Community West.
Dennison joined GateHouse more than seven years ago and has served as Regional Vice President of the Large Daily Division since January 2012. Prior to this role, he served as GateHouse’s Vice President of News & Interactive, in which he oversaw all aspects of the company’s news and online operations, including content strategy, and digital development and support.
From May 2004 to October 2006, he served as Vice President of News for Birmingham, Ala.-based Community Newspaper Holdings Inc., owner of more than 90 daily newspapers. Previously, he held editing positions at the Chicago Sun-Times, the Daily Southtown on Chicago’s South Side, The Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle and various community newspapers in the Midwest and South.
He just completed a one-year term as president of the Associated Press Media Editors and has served on its Board of Directors since 2008.
In a companywide announcement, Davis cited Dennison’s news background as being “first and foremost” in the decision.
“He understands our strengths and shortcomings, and cares deeply about the quality and future of local journalism,” Davis said in the statement. “He’s earned a national reputation as a strong advocate for journalists.
“Beyond his news roots, I’ve personally observed his professional growth in his seven years with GateHouse Media. He has successfully transitioned from a news executive to a digital executive to a business leader. Brad has a keen eye for talent and a good ear for hearing what our employees have to say. There are plenty of opportunities to uncover if we work harder at listening to and engaging with you.”
