Forty-one state newspaper associations, including the Ohio Newspaper Association, have signed a letter to Sen. Max Baucus chairman of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, urging him to preserve the existing federal income tax deduction for advertising expenses.
As part of overall tax reform, some members of Congress have been discussing limits on the annual deduction. Newspapers and other media groups argue that these are usual and necessary business expenses that should not be treated differently and that limiting the deductibility would result in less advertising.
ONA members are urged to contact the offices of their members of Congress to also make their views known. If you need contact information or talking points, contact Executive Director Dennis Hetzel at firstname.lastname@example.org.
