The U.S. Postal Service will soon close its once bustling Saturday business mail operations in Cincinnati because of low demand.
Notices of the change went out to local businesses earlier this month. From now on, first class mail, periodicals, standard mail and packages will only be accepted weekdays at the Cincinnati Business Mail Entry Unit at 990 Dalton Ave.
Hours at other offices and Saturday delivery will not be affected by the change.
A Postal Service spokesman said the decision to close the business unit on Saturdays was strictly about economics.
Although demand once was significant on Saturdays for shipping magazines, newspapers and other bulk business mailings, it has fallen fast in the past decade thanks to the Internet and competition from other carriers.
