Scott High School and area radio, TV, and print media outlets are partnering to provide students first-hand experience in multimedia professions.
Toledo Public Schools announced on Monday that WTOL-TV, Channel 11, Clear Channel, WGTE Public Broad Casting, BCSN, and WJZE 97.3 FM will work with broadcast students at Scott. The outlets will broadcast at times from the school, allow students to work in their studios, or have students produce their own pieces.
Scott has both radio and TV studios in the school that are operated by students under the guidance of teacher Lisa Zilba. The school shares 88.3 FM with the University of Toledo, and run jazz programming for half the day. Students also record daily TV school updates that are broadcast internally throughout Scott.
Fred Lefebvre from 1370 WSPD said he plans to record shows in the fall at Scott, and WTOL occasionally will broadcast its “Your Day” program from the school’s studios. Representatives from the media companies said they were impressed with the pieces of equipment at Scott, which were upgraded when the school reopened in 2012 after a more than two-year, $42 million renovation.
