More than 50 Cox Media Group Ohio employees are getting their hands dirty at the Great Miami River in downtown Dayton as part of Clean Sweep 2014.

The Cox employees from Dayton Daily News, WHIO TV and radio and other Cox companies are participating in the effort organized by American Rivers and Five Rivers MetroParks and other groups.

The Northern Clean-up event — from Indian Lake to Franklin — takes place today and Saturday. Volunteers from Cox are being joined by Manheim employees from Cincinnati as well as those from Cargill, Atlantis Sportswear and the Miami Valley Conservancy District.

This is part of an ongoing larger river cleanup effort that spans from Indian Lake down to the Ohio River.

Cox employees have collected thousands of pounds of debris from the river over the years. Last year’s haul ranged from a ladder and a safe to a bicycle, mattress padding to a recycle bin with recycling materials in it.
