On March 30, 1815, Publisher John Saxton produced the very first issue of The Repository. Two hundred years later, Stark County will be celebrating that momentous occasion with a series of community events and special editions to celebrate the newspaper’s bicentennial.
“The Repository’s 200th anniversary is a significant occasion for the entire community and, as such, we are developing a variety of initiatives that will allow everyone to celebrate with us,” explained Publisher James Porter.
Leading the bicentennial efforts will be Maureen Ater, general manager of The Independent. Although Ater’s full-time position with the company is focused on The Repository’s sister publication, The Independent in western Stark County, she has continued to maintain duties for GateHouse Ohio Media, the group publishing company that operates both papers.
Ater is active in the community and serves on multiple boards and committees throughout Stark County and the region. She was promoted to general manager of The Independent in August 2013. Before that, she served for six years as the director of marketing for the publishing group.
