Retired publisher Donald Edward Doyle, originally from Ohio, passes away

Donald Edward Doyle, of Titusville, Florida, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, November 18, 2014. He was 75.

Don was born in Salem, Ohio on December 10, 1938, the youngest child of John and Sadie Wilhelm Doyle. He was a 1957 graduate of Salem High School. He later served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on October 31, 1967. His father died in his sophomore year of high school.

At the age of 15, he became a janitor at his hometown newspaper, The Salem News working afternoons to supplement his family's income. That part time job began what would amount to a 50 plus year career in the newspaper industry. Don worked his way through the printing trade, first as an apprentice and then a journeyman, before becoming a printer at The Salem News. He became a production consultant with Thomson Newspapers in the 1970’s and later worked for Herald Printing in Toledo, Ohio before becoming the publisher of The Wayne Independent (Honesdale, Pennsylvania), The News Eagle (Hawley, Pennsylvania), The Carbondale News (Carbondale, Pennsylvania) and The Villager (Moscow, Pennsylvania).
