Consider Foundation, OCOG with your dues investment

As you make your annual dues investment with the Ohio Newspaper Association, please consider a voluntary donation to either the Ohio Newspapers Foundation or the Ohio Coalition for Open Government.

Both are 501(c)3, tax-exempt organizations, so your donation will be tax deductible in most cases.

We thank these ONA members and individuals for recent donations to the Foundation or OCOG:

  • Retired ONA Executive Director Frank Deaner, in memory of Hal Douthit
  • Ross Taylor, Archbold Buckeye, in memory of Hal Douthit
  • St. Marys Evening Leader, contributions to both the Foundation and OCOG
  • The Budget, SugarCreek, contributions to both the Foundation and OCOG
  • The Record-Courier, Kent, contributions to both the Foundation and OCOG
  • Executive Director Dennis Hetzel, in memory of Hal Douthit

The demands on the resources of both organizations grow every year.  The Foundation handles ONA’s training, internship, scholarship and Newspapers in Education programs, among other things.  Many members work with local organizations to channel tax-deductible contributions through the Foundation to support NIE efforts in their communities.

The demands on OCOG continue to grow for legal support in Sunshine Law cases.  OCOG will be establishing a fund in the memory of Hal Douthit, the founding president of OCOG and a long-time supporter of the ONA.  We also encourage our members to consider the Foundation or OCOG as part of their estate planning.

We recently received a warm letter from Hal Douthit’s widow, Mary, in which she noted, “Hal had many very happy years as a member of your group and president.”

We can provide confirming letters and any other information you need for contributions. For further information on donating to either organization, contact Sue Bazzoli, sbazzoli@ohionews.org.
