Former Plain Dealer Publisher Terrance Egger becomes publisher of Philadelphia Media Network on Oct. 1

From The Plain Dealer

Terrance C.Z. Egger, the former president, publisher and chief executive of The Plain Dealer, has been named the new publisher of the Philadelphia Media Network LLC, parent company of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com.

Egger, who until April was president and chief executive of the Cleveland 2016 Host Committee that wooed the Republican National Convention here next summer, will assume his new role on Oct. 1.

Egger will replace current Publisher H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest, sole owner of the Inquirer, Daily News and Philly.com, who is stepping down from that role but will remain on the company's board of directors.

In May, Egger was one of eight corporate and civic leaders -- and the only former newspaper publisher -- named by Lenfest to the Philadelphia Media Network's newly formed board of directors.

"You can't meet the man without being thoroughly impressed by who he is and what his intent is," Egger said via telephone. He described Lenfest as a philanthropist who bought the papers to keep journalism alive in Philadelphia.
