The Bulletin
The Bulletin is a member service available to all
employees of ONA member newspapers and to Associate members. This
bi-weekly newsletter is published at the ONA office. It is
distributed on alternate Fridays to more than 700 newspaper
executives and staff. The Bulletin mailing list includes publishers,
general managers, editors, advertising directors and circulation
managers. It is circulated to additional staff within each organization.
Members may access the Bulletin online in the
Bulletin Archive.

Legally
Speaking
Written periodically by ONA legal counsel David
Marburger, this column analyzes significant court cases related to
freedom of information, libel, privacy and other matters of concern
to journalists. Marburger is a noted expert in media law. He is in
the Cleveland office of Baker & Hostetler, which serves as
general counsel to ONA.
Calendar
A regular box provides quick reference to upcoming
activities of ONA, including training seminars and committee meeting
as well as meetings of affiliated groups such as Ohio Newspaper
Advertising Executives (ONAE), Ohio Circulation Managers Association
(OCMA) and Ohio League of Home Dailies.
Legislative
Updates
Timely articles cover developments with legislation in
the Ohio General Assembly that impact the newspaper business. They
include ONA position statements as tracked by Frank Deaner, executive
director & lobbyist. The Bulletin also covers key congressional
issues as tracked and reported by the National Newspaper Association
& Newspaper Association of America. |

Briefly
This regular section has short announcements of people
and activities in the newspaper industry. They include job changes
and promotions, contests and entry information and items from
national newspaper and journalist organizations.
Marketplace
A regular section of classified ads, Marketplace
includes help wanted, situations wanted and equipment for sale. Ads
are limited to no more than 50 words and will be published only once
unless specified otherwise. There is no charge for ads placed by
employees of ONA member newspapers & organizations. The charge
for non-members is $15 per placement (up to 50 words).

News & Features
From the introduction of a new special section to
major changes in operations, news about ONAs member daily and
weekly newspapers is featured in The Bulletin. Individual members are
encouraged to submit clips, press releases, original articles and
photos for publication. Regularly, an ONA-member newspaper is featured in
the Bulletin as a "Meet Our Members" item, whether it be a highlighted
program, event or staff member.
Advertising
Page
Each Bulletin includes an advertising section written by
Mark Henry, manager, Ohio Newspaper Services. Targeted to newspaper
ad executives, this section has important demographic data, sales
strategies and trends and updates on the OhioScan classified
advertising network as well as ONS display sales.
