Special Scheduling Note

Adobe Photoshop and InDesign are being taught on consecutive days (April 15 & 16) at Columbus State Community College. If you need assistance with overnight accommodations, contact the ONA office.

Editing Photos for Newspapers in Photoshop
Just about everyone in newspapers uses Photoshop. And most newspaper designers wish they knew a lot more about the tools and resources available in this powerful application. In this full day hands-on session, Kevin Slimp will cover dozens of features in Photoshop, but will key on two important elements of the program: photo editing & color correction. Here are a few of the items Kevin plans to cover during this session:

  • Creating color settings to achieve better results on newsprint
  • Using the Bridge/Browser to accomplish tasks you didn’t know were possible
  • The basics of photo editing in Photoshop
  • The basics of color correction in Photoshop
  • Using advanced photo editing & color correction tools
  • Creating animated files for newspaper website ads

There will be a one hour break for lunch. Lunches provided by ONA.

The Instructor

Kevin SlimpKevin Slimp is best known as the developer of the PDF remote printing method. Twelve years ago, Slimp developed the system now used by newspapers and publishers around the world for file transmission and printing.

Slimp now serves as director of the University of Tennessee Institute of Newspaper Technology, a training program for newspaper designers, editors and publishers located on campus at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. His technology columns can be read in more than 50 print publications throughout the world.

Slimp has spoken at over 300 conferences and training sessions for over 30 press associations, spanning from Northwest Canada to South Florida.

The Facility

Columbus State Community CollegeColumbus State Community College has been dedicated to meeting the educational needs of the community for more than 40 years. The College has grown from an initial enrollment of 67 students in 1963 to its current thriving campus of more than 23,000 students. The small, friendly campus is conveniently located near downtown Columbus, on 80 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds. The campus currently consists of more than two dozen buildings.

• Exit on Broad Street (#108B) and turn left
• Right on Cleveland Avenue
• The parking lot is on your right, just after the intersection of Spring St. and Cleveland Ave. TL Computer Commons is across Mount Vernon Street.

• Exit on Spring Street (109C) - exit is on the left side of the highway
• Turn right on Spring Street

• Follow directions from the East.

From the South:
• Take 1-71N
• Follow directions from the East.
