The Instructor
Steve Edwards has over 27 years of major newspaper experience. He began working with newspapers in 1981 as a district representative for the Dayton Daily News and Journal Herald. In 1983, Edwards transferred to the advertising division as an account representative. Two years later, he became a district sales manager for The Arizona Republic and Phoenix Gazette. Edwards was promoted through the ranks and in 2003 was named Metro Single Copy Manager.
In September 2005 he was hired by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution as Director Single Copy Sales, responsible for sales and operations. Owned by Cox Newspapers, the Journal-Constitution is located in the ninth largest metro market in the U.S. It is the largest daily newspaper in the Southeast with a daily circulation of approximately 375,000 and Sunday circulation of more than 500,000. Edwards is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, the National Association of Minority Media Executives board, the American Press Institute’s circulation advisory board and the Newspaper Association of America convention planning committee.
Co-Sponsored by OCMA
This training session is being conducted in cooperation with the Ohio Circulation Managers Association. Founded in 1917, OCMA represents circulation executives from ONA-member daily and weekly newspapers throughout Ohio. Besides training, OCMA services its members through regular updates on circulation issues, legal guidance, and an annual conference. The association also conducts an annual Carrier Recognition Program.
For information on OCMA membership as well as the 2008 Conference Oct. 5-7 in Dayton, go to www.ohiocirculation.com.
