Love replaces Tyner on ONMA board; 2018-19 committees set

Beryl Love, editor and vice president of news for The Cincinnati Enquirer and the USA Today Network Ohio, will join the Ohio News Media Association Board of Trustees.

Monica Nieporte, president of APG Media of Ohio and president of the ONMA board, made the announcement to trustees at their meeting in Dayton last week. Love will complete the term held by Eddie Tyner, president of the Midwest region for the Gannett Co.

At the board meeting, Nieporte also announced committee chairs for 2018-19. Full lists of committee members can be found at www.ohionews.org.  Committee chairs are as follows:

  • Executive Committee: Monica Nieporte, Athens Messenger, ONMA board president
  • AdOhio Advisory Committee: Ron Waite, Sandusky Register, ONMA vice president
  • Weekly Newspaper Committee: Mary Huber, Archbold Buckeye
  • 2019 Convention Committee: Karmen Concannon, Bowling Green Sentinel-Tribune
  • Professional Development Committee: Bill Hudnutt, Elyria Chronicle-Telegram
  • Government Relations Committee: Doug Olsson, Lima News/AIM Media Midwest
  • Circulation Managers Committee: Shaun Schweitzer, Akron Beacon Journal

In addition, while meeting in their role as board members of the Ohio News Media Foundation, ONMA trustees elected two new citizen members to the Ohio Coalition for Open Government Board of Trustees. They are Michael Curtin, who held various executive roles with The Columbus Dispatch and is a former Ohio state representative, and Lou Colombo, retired general counsel for the ONMA and one of Ohio’s leading sunshine law experts.

Curtin and Colombo replaced Catherine Turcer of Common Cause Ohio and Monica Dias of the Frost Brown Todd law firm in Cincinnati, who were term-limited.

“We thank everyone involved for their service to our organization. It has never mattered more than today that we have a strong association with members who are involved,” Nieporte said. “And we invite anyone from our membership who is interested in being more involved to let us know.”
