An Ashtabula County Grand Jury has indicted Don McCormack, ex-sports editor of The Star Beacon and former girls' softball and basketball coach at Jefferson Area High School, on several sex-related charges tied to his conduct as a coach.
Rod Holmes, head coach of the school’s girls basketball team, was indicted on two first-degree misdemeanor charges of failing to report child abuse in connection with McCormack’s conduct.
Ashtabula County Prosecutor Nick Iarocci announced the indictments Wednesday. He said they resulted from a “lengthy investigation” by the sheriff’s department that involved interviews with more than 80 witnesses.
The prosecutor said McCormack was indicted on one count of endangering children (third degree felony); three counts of sexual battery (third degree felonies); one count of gross sexual imposition (a fourth degree felony), and two counts of sexual imposition (third degree misdemeanors).
