Cox Ohio’s Joseph appointed to ONA board
Mike Joseph, president & CEO of Cox Ohio Publishing and publisher of The Dayton Daily News, has been appointed to the ONA board of trustees. The appointment was announced by ONA president Ken Douthit, Douthit Communications.
In representing newspapers of more than 100,000 circulation, Joseph will complete the unexpired term left by Doug Franklin, who in March became publisher of The Palm Beach (FL) Post after serving as president & CEO of Cox Ohio.
Joseph joined Cox Ohio Publishing in 1995, initially in operations where he held several positions ranging from production director to vice president of operations. In 2005 he was named senior vice president of business, his responsibilities including sales, distribution, manufacturing, finance, systems and technology, and human resources.
Besides The Dayton Daily News, Cox Ohio Publishing includes three other daily newspapers, eight different weekly newspaper editions and additional online e-papers and local Web sites.
Before joining Cox Ohio, Joseph was manufacturing manager for Pioneer Press in Chicago. His community involvement includes serving on the board of the Dayton Chamber of Commerce and on the Dayton Business Committee, a local CEO roundtable group.
In other ONA board action, Douthit has appointed Doug Phares, publisher of The Sandusky Register, to the Ohio Newspaper Services (AdOhio) Advisory Committee. As board liaison to that committee, he succeeds Murray Cohen, president of Delphos Herald, Inc., who retired from the ONA board in February.
The spring meeting of the ONA board is scheduled for June 6 in Aurora, OH. In conjunction with that meeting, ONA trustees will meet with faculty members and tour Franklin Hall, the new home of the Kent State University School of Journalism & Mass Communication.
