ONA to launch newspapersmakehistory.com
This year’s observance of ONA’s 75th anniversary began with several special activities at the February convention, continues with our “Birthday at the Ballpark” events in May and June, and will conclude with a more public project this fall.
As outlined by our Anniversary Committee, plans call for the launch of a new Web site at www.newspapersmakehistory.com.
Beginning in June, all member newspapers of ONA will be asked to submit an archived edition relating to national and state historical events beginning with 1933, the year of ONA’s founding. From these editions, the historic front pages and headlines will be posted in a searchable format on the Web site. The objective is to remind readers and the general public of the important role newspapers continue to play in chronicling the significant events in their lives — whether in print or online.
Assisted by our student intern, ONA staff will begin work on the project in June with the official launch of the site planned for fall.
