Student interns have joined ONA, AdOhio
Student interns Arden Gibney and Pooja Goswami have joined the ONA, AdOhio team for ten-week summer internships.
Working as ONA’s publications/public relations intern, Gibney’s responsibilities include writing for the ONA Bulletin and assisting with the launch of www.newspapersmakehistory.com, ONA’s 75th anniversary Web site.
“By my second week here, I was already immersed in two projects and already the results have been rewarding,” Gibney said.
As a senior public relations-journalism major at Ohio University, Gibney’s specialized areas of study include marketing and political science. Gibney is a member of OU’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter, as well as its student-run public relations firm, imPRessions.
Born and raised in Westerville, Ohio, Gibney says she would like to spend her next summer traveling before finding a job at a Midwest public relations firm.
Goswami, AdOhio’s advertising intern, has been helping with the business development of the 2×2 Network and assisting with newspaper tear sheets and research.
Although Goswami admits she applied for the AdOhio internship on a whim, she says it’s a good fit for her.
“It was a coincidence that the internship perfectly complemented
what I had been doing at school,” Goswami said. “The work I did (at school) was similar, but on a much smaller scale to the work we do at AdOhio.”
While at Ohio Wesleyan University, the junior international business/international studies double-major serves as the business manager for The Transcript, OWU’s student newspaper. Goswami also works as a resident assistant, and as a fourth grade math tutor for the Columbus Initiative.
A native of India, Goswami says she plans to attend graduate school in the United States before working for an advertising firm in India.
The student internships are provided by the Ohio Newspapers Foundation and were established in 1991.
