Heminger appointed to ONA board
Karl Heminger, president of Findlay Publishing Co., has been appointed to the ONA board of trustees. The announcement was made by ONA president Ken Douthit, president of Douthit Communications, Inc.
Heminger represents the fourth generation of his family that is involved with the company, which dates back to 1890. The company includes two daily newspapers in Ohio and seven radio stations, two in Ohio and five in Indiana. The newspapers are The Courier, a six-day-a-week morning newspaper based in Findlay, and the Fostoria Review Times, also a six-day-a-week newspaper that was purchased in 2000.
The Courier, with a circulation of 20,931, covers Hancock and surrounding counties. The Review Times has a circulation of 4,000.
In joining the ONA board, Heminger will be representing daily newspapers of under 10,000 circulation. The appointment fills one of three vacancies dating back to early this year and leaves one more appointment which Douthit expects to make prior to the Oct. 10 board of trustees meeting.
The board appointments are being completed in conjunction with changes to the by-laws that were recently adopted by the membership. Six board seats are designated for daily newspapers of over 50,000 circulation, three seats for dailies of 10,000 to 50,000 circulation, three seats for dailies under 10,000 circulation, and six seats for weekly newspapers.
Heminger first joined The Courier in 1978, was named publisher in 2000, and became president in 2004. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in civil engineering and received a masters degree in manufacturing engineering from Northwestern University.
Heminger serves on the boards of the Findlay/Hancock County Community Foundation, Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center and University of Findlay. He is also active with the Boy Scouts as well as ONA. He has served on the ONA Convention Committee since 2006.
