Judging begins for Hooper newspaper competition
Judging has begun for this year’s Osman Hooper Newspaper Contest, the annual competition for ONA’s weekly newspaper members. This year’s entries total 526 from 70 newspapers.
In keeping with the contest rules, judging is being conducted in five circulation divisions, based on equal numbers of newspapers in each division. According to the circulation figures submitted with this year’s entries, those divisions are:
- Division A – 12, 084 to 37,687
- Division B – 6,307 to 9,976
- Division C – 3,827 to 5,811
- Division D – 2,222 to 3,689
- Division E – 1,022 to 1,994
Winners will be determined for 13 classes or topics in each of the circulation divisions plus overall General Excellence Awards for the five divisions. Winners will be announced at the ONA Convention on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009. Winners will be notified in early January.
The Hooper competition is an annual activity of the Weekly Newspaper Committee of ONA, chaired by Keith Rathbun, Sugarcreek Budget.
