Editors Roundtable & Ad Sales kick off 2009 training
A first-ever Editors Roundtable will be offered as a bonus session on the 2009 ONA Newspaper Staff Training Calendar, followed by popular instructor Chuck Nau, who returns to lead a session on “Selling in Tough Economic Times.”
The Editors Roundtable is scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, at the Hilton Garden Inn in the OSU area of Columbus. The half-day session will allow editors from all ONA member daily and weekly newspapers to share and discuss mutual issues of concern. The topics may range from content decisions, staff and operational matters, legal and ethical issues, or matters to be lobbied on editorial pages. Facilitator for the session will be Tom Hodson, director of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University.
Nau’s March 18 session on advertising sales will focus specifically on methods newspaper sales reps should use in “Selling in Tough Economic Times.” A Seattle-based consultant who works with media groups across the country, Nau has been one of the most popular instructors in the ONA lineup for the past six years.
Other sessions that have been confirmed for the spring portion of the ONA training calendar include:
* March 25 — Creating Animated Ads Using Flash & Photoshop with instructor Kevin Slimp
* April 1 — Online Ad Sales with instructor Mike Blinder
* April 15 — Generational Newspaper Strategy with instructor Chuck Underwood
The remainder of the spring calendar will include sessions on Web site content, circulation management, and video shooting techniques.
Watch for a mailing with all the details of the sessions listed above. Complete program details and online registration will be available at training.ohionews.org as of Tuesday, Jan. 27.
Plan now and mark your calendars!
