Former AIM Media Midwest director Jesse Mullen becomes publisher of Washington paper

A print and digital media executive, Jesse Mullen, is the new publisher of the Statesman-Examiner as of Oct. 2.

Mullen is no stranger to newspapers. For starters, he comes from a family of journalists who own community newspapers all over the northwest, including three in Washington, the Newport Miner, Mason County Journal and Port Townsend Leader. Mullen also owns the Thermopolis (Wyo.) Independent with his two brothers.

Mullen studied journalism at the University of Wyoming. While attending school he was night editor of the Laramie Boomerang before being promoted to the Rawlins Daily Times. He has held advertising and publishing positions a various newspapers in Wyoming, Montana, Oregon and Washington and was most recently the Senior Director of Product and Content Management for Civitas Media, a community publishing company with more than 100 daily and weekly newspapers in the eastern and midwestern United States.

Mullen won numerous awards for advertising and editorial excellence from the Montana and Washington newspaper associations and in 2014 was named to Editor & Publisher magazine’s “25 Under 35.” More recently he served as the Ohio Ambassador to the National Newspaper Association and worked closely with the Ohio Coalition for Open Government.
