From The Alton Telegraph

Award-winning journalist Bob Strickley has been named editor of The Alton Telegraph, effective Thursday.

The announcement was made by Jim Lawitz, director of content for Civitas Media, The Telegraph’s parent company.

“I am thrilled about the opportunity to enhance the already sterling reputation of the Telegraph and usher in the next phase of hyper-local focus to a paper that is already rich with history and talented journalists,” Strickley said.

Prior to assuming leadership of The Telegraph’s editorial department, Strickley was the editor of the Portsmouth (Ohio) Daily Times, overseeing an award-winning newsroom.

While with the Daily Times, Strickley was recognized by the Associated Press Media Editors and the Ohio Senate for tremendous attainment in reporting.

After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in journalism from The Ohio State University, Strickley worked for a series of weekly publications south of Boston, Mass.

Strickley said his focus is to increase the presence and scope of The Telegraph’s newsroom while providing transparency to the paper’s readers.
