Staff Directory
The Ohio Newspaper Association, AdOhio and Ohio Newspapers Foundation staff provide a number of valuable member services. The following is a brief description of staff organization with the areas for which you may contact each of them.
Ohio Newspaper Association
Frank Deaner, Executive Director

Deaner oversees the administration and all activities of ONA, ONS and the Foundation. He serves as secretary to the board of trustees, executive director of the Foundation and president of The Ohio Coalition for Open Government (OCOG). He is the registered lobbyist for ONA and a spokesman for the newspaper business. Prior to joining ONA in 1990 he was vice president of The Ohio Electric Utility Institute. He spent 15 years as a broadcast journalist. A native of Hershey (PA), Deaner received a B.S. degree in journalism (summa cum laude) from Ohio University and a master’s degree from the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University. In 2005 he received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio U. He is an accredited (APR) member of the Public Relations Society of America and adviser to the Ohio U. student chapter. Deaner is also a member of the Ohio Society of Association Executives (OSAE):

Sue Bazzoli, Manager of Administrative Services

Bazzoli’s duties include registration for all seminars and conferences, finances, and account management for ONA, the Foundation and The Ohio Coalition for Open Government. She also assists the executive director with membership inquiries, membership applications and meetings of the board of trustees. Bazzoli’s previous positions include executive assistant to the owner of Patton Investment Holdings, administrative secretary at Central Ohio Special Education Regional Resource Center, and bookkeeper for Holbrook, Manter & Rogers. She earned a B.S. degree in human ecology from Ohio State University. Contact Bazolli for:

Rick Markus, Web Communications Specialist

Markus’s primary duty at ONA is writing and layout for the Bulletin, the association’s bi-weekly newsletter. Markus also creates brochures, informational sheets, and special publications. He maintains the organization’s Web page and assists in facilitating special events and seminars. Markus previously worked for The Lantern, Ohio State University’s student newspaper. A native of Cincinnati, Markus received a B.A. degree in journalism and a minor in english from OSU. Contact Markus for:

Ann Riggs, Receptionist & Secretary

Riggs’ part-time duties include routing all ONA and ONS telephone calls, maintaining all mailing lists and databases, incoming mail, organizing all member mailings, scheduling the conference room and handling correspondence for the executive director. She also assists with conference services, including registration and sponsorships.

Walt Dozier, Acting Manager & Account Executive

Dozier’s duties with AdOhio include dealing with direct clients and agencies for rates, newspaper options and planning media buys. He also maintains market demographic data. Dozier was previously general manager of Michigan Newspapers, Inc., advertising subsidiary of The Michigan Press Association. He also has previous experience as a sales representative with Studio One in Battle Creek, Mich. Dozier received his B.A. degree in advertising from Michigan State University. Contact Dozier for:

Patricia Conkle, Advertising Coordinator

Conkle’s duties for AdOhio include serving as business manager through accounts receivable, accounts payable and credit managing. Conkle attended The College of William and Mary for three years where she studied accounting. She received her associate degree from the Columbus Business University. Kathy McCutcheon, OhioScan Account Executive

McCutcheon’s duties with AdOhio include selling and placing classified advertising for the statewide OhioScan network and the 2×2 Network. She also handles client development and maintains network sales promotion materials. McCutcheon has been with the association since 1972. She was promoted to her current position in 1993. Ramona Bussard, Account Services Coordinator

Bussard’s duties for AdOhio include assisting the account executives in maintaining key accounts, compiling directory information and organizing tearsheets. Bussard joined AdOhio in August 2007. Previously she spent 15 years with The Columbus Dispatch where she held positions in the classified advertising department. Most recently she worked as a sales consultant for “Money Maker,” a coupon packet distributed near Columbus. She graduated from Wittenberg University with a bachelor’s degree in English. Rachael Ledingham, Advertising Services Assistant
Ledingham’s part-time duties for AdOhio include compiling tearsheets for current newspaper buys. She works mornings Monday through Friday. Ledingham previously spent 45 years in the graphic design field, most recently with Mlicki Design. She studied fine arts at Ohio State University and took classes at the Chicago Art Institute, Academy of Fine Arts (Chicago) and Bradley University.
