The Ohio Newspaper Association, AdOhio and Ohio Newspapers Foundation staff provide a number of valuable member services. The following is a brief description of staff organization with the areas for which you may contact each of them.

Ohio Newspaper Association

Dennis Hetzel, Executive Director

Dennis HetzelAs ONA’s chief executive, Hetzel oversees the association and its staff as well as ONS (AdOhio) and the Ohio Newspapers Foundation. He also serves as secretary to the board of trustees, president of The Ohio Coalition for Open Government (OCOG) and registered lobbyist for ONA. Before joining ONA in November, 2010, from Enquirer Media in Cincinnati, Hetzel’s extensive industry career included stints as a sports editor, news reporter, movie critic, editorial writer, editor, publisher and website manager. He spent 13 years as editor and publisher of the York, Pa., Daily Record and four years as managing editor of the Madison, Wis., Capital Times. Hetzel was an executive board member of the Pennsylvania and Kentucky newspaper associations where he championed open government issues as well as the industry’s move into the digital age. In Pennsylvania, he received the newspaper association’s Benjamin Franklin Award as the state’s industry executive of the year in 2003 and the Paul Tobenkin Award from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism for his leadership on issues of race and diversity. He has presented for the American Press Institute and taught journalism at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at Penn State and Temple universities. A native of Chicago, Hetzel holds a political science degree with a minor in journalism from Western Illinois University. At ONA, he is your first contact on these matters:

Sue Bazzoli, Manager of Administrative Services

Sue BazzoliBazzoli’s duties include registration for all seminars and conferences, finances, and account management for ONA, the Foundation and The Ohio Coalition for Open Government. She also assists the executive director with membership inquiries, membership applications and meetings of the board of trustees. Bazzoli’s previous positions include executive assistant to the owner of Patton Investment Holdings, administrative secretary at Central Ohio Special Education Regional Resource Center, and bookkeeper for Holbrook, Manter & Rogers. Jason Sanford, Manager of Communications and Content

Jason SanfordJason’s primary duty at ONA is editing and publishing for the Bulletin, the association’s online trade publication. He maintains the organization’s Web sites and manages ONA’s e-mail and social media broadcasts. Jason also creates brochures, informational sheets, and special publications and facilitates A/V for the annual convention. Before joining the ONA, Jason worked as the director of marketing and communications for the Ohio Association of Broadcasters and, prior to that, as the director of communications for the Health Policy Institute of Ohio. Jason has a degree in anthropology from Auburn University and is a native of Alabama. He’s also a published science fiction writer. He lives in the Columbus area with his wife and children. Ann Riggs, Receptionist & Secretary

Ann RiggsRiggs’ part-time duties include routing all ONA and ONS telephone calls, maintaining all mailing lists and databases, incoming mail, organizing all member mailings, scheduling the conference room and handling correspondence for the executive director. She also assists with conference services, including registration and sponsorships.

Walt Dozier, Advertising Director

Walt DozierDozier’s duties with AdOhio include dealing with direct clients and agencies for rates, newspaper options and planning media buys. He also maintains market demographic data. Dozier was previously general manager of Michigan Newspapers, Inc., advertising subsidiary of The Michigan Press Association. He also has previous experience as a sales representative with Studio One in Battle Creek, Mich. Dozier received his B.A. degree in advertising from Michigan State University. Contact Dozier for:

Patricia Conkle, Operations Manager

Pat ConkleConkle’s duties for AdOhio include serving as business manager through accounts receivable, accounts payable and credit managing. Conkle attended The College of William and Mary for three years where she studied accounting. She received her associate degree from the Columbus Business University. Kathy McCutcheonMcCutcheon’s duties with AdOhio include selling and placing classified advertising for the statewide OhioScan network and the 2×2 Network. She also handles client development and maintains network sales promotion materials. McCutcheon has been with the association since 1972. She was promoted to her current position in 1993. Mary Hottenrott

Hottenrott joined AdOhio in December 2011. Previously she worked for the Dispatch Group properties and The Publishing Group in Advertising Sales. She received her associate degree in Business Management from Columbus State. She resides near the Dublin area with her family, including two daughters.
