Retail and Residential Development Reporter

Cincinnati.com and The Enquirer are searching for a Reporter to join our newsroom.

As Retail and Residential Development Reporter you will:

  • You know more about retail — what’s new, what’s opening and what’s closing — than any other media. You break exclusive news and you get access to the key players unlike any other media.
  • You own residential development in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region — breaking exclusive news about the residential real estate market, from a new apartment or home development opening to the new real estate figures.
  • You spot trends in retail and residential development and provide a thoughtful analysis — like an influx of certain products or retail that’s unique to the Cincinnati region or whether it’s a good time to sell.
  • You engage your audience consistently throughout the week -- you build a true community and relationship around your coverage.
  • You are hyper-responsive to readers via social media. You are creative in finding ways to solicit their feedback and incorporate it into your coverage.
  • You continually initiate new techniques in your coverage to meet the interests and needs of 25-45 year olds
  • You are comfortable with voice -- you bring your unique voice to all your stories, social media, video appearances and public appearances. You are comfortable sharing your personality that helps 25-45-year-olds create a personal connection to you.
  • You work with your advertising partner to grow and monetize the 25-45 audience.

Required Skills + Abilities

  • Bachelor's in Communications, Journalism or equivalent in experience and education.
  • Ability to build coalitions around evolving needs.
  • Minimum 3-5 years in the journalism field
  • Effective communicator; able to get along with diverse personalities.
  • Deep understanding of and curiosity about competition for our customers' time and money.
  • Self-motivation and self-direction.
  • Industry knowledge.
  • Able to multi-task and excel under intense deadline pressure in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Knows how to use time efficiently in a 24-hour news environment.
  • Works collaboratively within a cross-functional environment.
  • Must embrace peer-to-peer training, as a both a teacher and student.
  • Applies innovative, creative thinking to support the company’s goals.
  • Writing, spelling, grammar, AP and local style.
  • Knowledge of media law and Principles of Ethical Conduct.

Pacing: Cool Homes weekly. Signature piece every month. Breaking news several times a week.
Typical hours: varies, lots of night and weekend
