Ohio’s Sunshine Laws: Why Journalists Should Be Worried

Friday, April 17, 10 a.m., a one-hour webinar, free to ONA members
Target audience: Editors, editorial page editors, reporters and content managers in Ohio’s newsrooms.

Ohio’s Sunshine Laws were once models for the entire country. Unfortunately, despite a few positive exceptions, courts and legislators in recent years have undermined the intent of Ohio’s open meetings and open records laws.

ONA Executive Director Dennis Hetzel will detail what’s been happening and show the impact on newsrooms’ access to information. He’ll then discuss upcoming bills and other looming transparency issues to provide context and provoke ideas for stories, columns and editorials. Journalists and news organizations must hold elected officials responsible for restricting the public’s right to know.

This one-hour webinar is free to ONA members and will include time for questions. Pre-registration is required so you can receive log-in information.
