Canton Repository on finding front pages for their readers to see all over again

From The Canton Repository

Some front pages carry bold and black headlines reporting events that shifted the course of history in the 20th century.

Other newspaper pages proclaim news that is equally as earthshaking for their time, but they do so more subtly, in single-column stories, without illustrations, with gray type in the style of the 1800s.

More recent front pages exhibit modern design techniques, abandoning stacked headlines for open spaces, dramatizing the news with a variety of eye-catching type fonts and journalistically composed photographs.

In this manner The Repository is planning to portray not only local, national, and world history, but illustrate the evolution of newspapers, as well — printing a different page from the past each day, beginning today, as part of the observance of the newspaper’s bicentennial.
