Literacy
Since July of 1992 the Foundation, in conjunction with the Ohio Literacy Network, has maintained a statewide campaign to promote literacy through newspaper cartoon characters. Periodically updated, the campaign features artwork from five syndicated Ohio cartoonists and promotes an 800-number staffed by the Ohio Literacy Network that guides Ohioans to their local literacy programs. Cooperating newspapers donate the advertising space, with more than $750,000 donated thus far. This campaign has received a public service award from the Ohio Society of Association Executives and numerous endorsements from local literacy groups documenting increases in literacy awareness.
